JOEL GELMAN, M.D.
Director, Reconstructive Urology
Dr. Gelman is the Director of the Center for Reconstructive Urology.
He has performed over 600 urethral-penile reconstructive surgeries, and his practice is limited to his area of expertise in male urethral and genital reconstructive surgery.
Dr. Gelman joined the UC,Irvine Department of Urology faculty in 1998. He completed his urology residency at UCLA, where he
focused on impotence research. He then became a full-time faculty member at Ohio State
University and later completed a fellowship in adult and pediatric genitourinary
reconstruction at the Devine Center in Norfolk, Virginia. Dr. Gelman then joined
the faculty at Albert Einstein in New York before he was recruited by UC,Irvine Medical
Center. Dr. Gelman's clinical practice is exclusively devoted to reconstructive surgery. His
areas of expertise include urethral stricture disease and trauma, Peyronie's disease,
hypospadias, erectile dysfunction, and other disorders of the male urethra and external genitalia.
Dr. Gelman is a Diplomate of the American Board of Urology and completed a fellowship
in Adult and Pediatric Genitourinary Reconstructive Surgery.
